Javier Bravo

Javier Bravo was born in Santiago, Chile and moved to Canada at the age of nine.  Javier started playing soccer when he was five years old and has been involved in the sport ever since.  In 1986, Javier joined the Winnipeg Fury, a professional soccer team that was part of the Canadian Soccer League (CSL) in the late 80s and early 90s.  Javier was later recognized by the Canadian National Program and practiced with the Canadian national team.

Javier brings a vast amount of experience as a coach to GGFSC.  He holds a B-1 coaching license and has coached athletes at all ages and levels from the very young ones when they first learn how to kick a ball all the way up to experienced senior players.  In Canada, he was involved in coaching at the provincial level as well as the senior men, senior women, and youth levels.  As a coach, his focus is on not only making our players become better athletes, but also better people and role models for others. 

As Technical Director at GGFSC, Javier will focus on the development of our curriculum, mentoring and development of our coaches, and help growing the club and its programs.  Javier brings a vast amount of experience and knowledge to our club and has previously served as the Technical Director of three different soccer clubs.

Tyler O'Hara

Tyler O'Hara grew up outside of Detroit, Michigan and played club soccer for Waza FC., reaching as high as 17th in the national rankings during the 2007-2008 season and winning several division one league titles in the state of Michigan. Tyler was a first team all-conference, all-area, and all-regional selection his senior year of high school. He attended Michigan State University for an undergraduate degree in International Relations and the University of North Carolina for his Juris Doctorate.

Tyler began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the Men’s U16 TNT Soccer Club outside of East Lansing, MI. He then coached at Riverside High School as the Men’s Varsity assistant coach and head JV coach for two years in Durham, North Carolina. The JV team finished our final season with a 10-1-1 record and won the league championship, scoring 38 goals while conceding only 5. He also ran numerous striker/forward camps through the Triangle United Soccer Club in Chapel Hill, NC. Most recently, Tyler was the head women’s club soccer coach at the University of Notre Dame where the team finished the 2017-18 season with a 7-2-2 record and qualified for the national tournament in Phoenix, Arizona.    

Amanda Raso

Summer Competitive Program 2019: U12 Girls Head Coach

 

Amanda Raso is currently the Assistant Coach at the University of North Dakota where she works primarily with the Fighting Hawks' goalkeepers.  She came to Grand Forks after having spent three seasons as the Top Assistant Coach at Fort Lewis College, her alma mater, in Durango, Colorado.  She coached 2015 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year Caitlyn Espinosa while at Fort Lewis.  Prior to her time at Fort Lewis, Raso coached 2014 Lonestar Conference Goalkeeper of the Year while at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Amanda has also coached for the New Mexico ODP, Durango High School, Durango Youth Soccer Association, and the Greater Wichita Falls Soccer Association.  She holds a NSCAA National Diploma, the NSCAA Level 1 and 2 Goalkeeper Diplomas, and the United States Soccer Federation National D License.

Brendyn Lafferty

Brendyn Lafferty has been involved with soccer his entire life. He started playing Sunflake Soccer in Kindergarten and stuck with soccer up until the end of high school. In college, Brendyn has continued to play club soccer. Prior to starting his coaching career with GGFSC, Brendyn coached Sunflake Soccer for two years.

Carolyn Smith

Carolyn Smith is from Grand Forks, ND. She played soccer for multiple clubs growing up, including GGFSC but also the Fargo Soccer Club and Tri-City.

Carolyn is an alumni of Grand Forks Central, starting on varsity for four years, a captain and an All-Conference selection for two years. She is now at Bemidji State University, playing soccer and continuing her education. This will be her first year coaching and she is excited for the season.

Scott Nordin

Scott Nordin grew up in Grand Forks, North Dakota where he played soccer through high school. Scott’s coaching experience has spanned the majority of two decades. Scott began his coaching career in the mid 1990’s with the GGFSC for five years. He spent four seasons coaching middle school soccer with the Grand Forks Public Schools, followed by one season as the head coach for the girls varsity high school team in Crookston, MN. His career culminated at his alma mater Grand Forks Central High School coaching three seasons as the head boys varsity coach and nine seasons as the girls varsity head coach. Scott was named North Dakota coach of the year, as selected by his peers, in 2004.

After taking time off from coaching, Scott returned in the summer of 2018 coaching the GGFSC U-9 girls team. He holds a United States Soccer Federation National D license. Scott currently works at Choice Health and Fitness and lives in Grand Forks with his wife Heidi and three children Brielle, Aspen, and Easton.  

Killashandra Link

Summer Competitive Program 2019: U13 Girls Head Coach


Killashandra Link was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska and began her love of soccer at the age of five. Throughout her soccer career she experienced many different styles of coaching, game strategies, team diversity and development and various levels of competitive play. This experience started with her Omaha Soccer Club team, Gladiator 90/91 Blue, playing in the State Championship, participating in several tournaments as well as college showcases. During this same time, she also played on the Olympic Development Program state team for Nebraska, making it to the Regional Pool and winning the Regional Championship. She also traveled overseas playing in Holland with the Dutch Touch Soccer Academy experiencing a very different style of play and culture around the game of soccer. She continued playing at the high school level on the Varsity Team at Marian High School in Omaha, Nebraska while at the same time being the assistant coach for a U13 Girls team in the Omaha Soccer Club. In 2009 she moved to Moorhead, Minnesota attending Concordia College playing on the Concordia College Women’s Soccer team where during her time there the team were MIAC Champions twice, had three National Appearances in the Sweet 16 as well as receiving the MIP (Most Improved Player) Award in her Freshman year.

After college, she moved to Dubuque, Iowa to work on her Master’s Degree. While there she spent the next three years coaching for the Dubuque Soccer Club as both head coach and assistant. In 2016, she moved out to Littleton, Colorado to complete her clinical residency and continued her coaching passion as an assistant coach for the Mile High Academy Girls Varsity Soccer Team. In the spring of 2017 she coached a U10 girls team with the Littleton Soccer Club.

Killashandra has continued to expand her knowledge and love of the game by earning her United States Soccer Federation National E and D Licenses. Her next goal is to earn her C license through the experience she will gain coaching for the Greater Grand Forks Soccer Club.

Marcus Tanabe

Summer Competitive Program 2019: U11 Boys Head Coach


Marcus Tanabe started playing soccer in Grand Forks as a youth. He played five years of varsity soccer, three of those years at Red River, before his family moved to the Twin Cities. Marcus continued playing soccer throughout high school for Hill-Murray. While in the Twin Cities, Marcus played U19 for two years with the Bloomington Football Club as well. He was recruited to play at St. John’s University before sustaining a season-ending injury.

Marcus has four boys and has enjoyed coaching them for the past few years in Sunflake Soccer. Coaching, especially coaching soccer, is an opportunity to fulfill one of Marcus’s life goals.

Maddie Kleven

Summer Competitive Program 2019: U10 Girls Assistant Coach

 

Maddie Kleven is 18 years old and will be graduating from Red River High School in June of this year. Her experience with soccer started at the age of three and she has continued to grow in the sport since. Growing up, she spent her elementary years playing Sunflake soccer and her middle school years playing at Schroeder Middle School. During her time at Red River High School, she spent two years on the Junior Varsity team and two years on the Varsity team. She has also played summer soccer for GGFSC for eight years, starting at the age of nine up until last summer during which she played on the U18 girls team.

Maddie started her coaching experience with GGFSC last summer when she was the Assistant Coach for the U10 Boys team, Mutiny. Maddie is looking forward to the upcoming season where she will be the Assistant Coach for the U10 Girls team. She can't wait to continue building her coaching skills as well as her players' love for the sport!

Jake Jensen

Jake Jensen was born and raised in Grand Forks, North Dakota and has been a part of the Greater Grand Forks Soccer Club since he was 8. He played from U8 all the way through U18 and once he was done as a player he stepped right into coaching with the club. Jake has previously also served as Director of Coaching for GGFSC.


Jake currently holds a United States Soccer Federation National C coaching license, as well as a National Diploma from the United Soccer Coaches organization. Additionally, Jake holds his level 1 and 2 goalkeeper certification and is certified to coach High School Soccer through the United Soccer Coaches organization.

Tucker Meillier

Tucker Meillier has played soccer since he started walking and began playing competitive soccer in sixth grade. In high school, he played C1 and Premier soccer as well as three yars on the varsity team. For the vast majority of this time, Tucker played as goalkeeper. Tucker started coaching in 2012 when he coached a U14 C3 team. He is focused on creating a passion for the sport in his players. He holds a U.S. Soccer 11v11 coaching license. Tucker is assisting both the U13 Boys and the U16 Girls this year.

Lauren Harrison

Lauren Harrison started playing soccer when she was six years old. At the age of ten she began playing for GGFSC and developed a passion for soccer. Lauren just finished her sophomore year at Grand Forks Central. She has been a starter on varsity since 8th grade and is a captain for her team at Central. She was named to the all EDC team team this year. Lauren has been selected to attend the Midwest Region ID camp in Saginaw, Michigan in July. She will be assisting the U12 girls team this summer. Lauren is excited to start coaching and help develop players skills and a love for the game of soccer.

Jason Heydt

Jason Heydt grew up playing soccer and played for Red River High School, a North Dakota Select team, Grand Forks traveling teams, as well as the UND Men's club team. Jason has coached both volleyball and soccer at various levels throughout the years. Last year, he coached the U15 Boys in his first year as coach for GGFSC and is continuing with the U15 Boys this year. Jason is also currently the Head Coach for the Red River Girls Soccer Program.

Sam Cowart

Sam Cowart grew up as an Air Force kid and played soccer in Hawaii until 6th grade when he moved to Minot. After high school, he attended UND, graduated, and moved all over the country as a member of the US Army. He coached for two seasons in the Sunflake program when he was back in Grand Forks attending graduate school at UND. His family then moved to West Point, NY, and he served as an assistant coach to a traveling team for two seasons. Since then, Sam has coached youth hockey teams both in Grand Forks and North Carolina and was excited to become part of GGFSC and get back to coaching soccer this year.

Izzy Alshalan

Izzy Alshalan is from Ada, Minnesota but was born and raised overseas for the first 13 years of his life. He started playing soccer when he was five years old and has done so ever since. Currently he plays on the UND Men's club team. He also played competitively overseas before heading to the U.S. This is his first year coaching for GGFSC and he is enjoying learning new skills and having fun with the team!

Mitchell Heigaard McGurran

Mitch Heigaard was born and raised in Grand Forks. He started playing soccer at the age of eight, joined GGFSC at eleven and played all the way through U18 for the club. Mitch attended and played four years at Red River High School. After graduating from Red River, Mitch joined the Red River Boys Soccer coaching staff and has been coaching for three years. This is Mitch's second year coaching for GGFSC.

Chad Parkinson

Chad Parkinson grew up in Fargo, ND and began playing soccer in 2nd grade. He continued playing through High School (3 years at Fargo South, before moving to Grand Forks and playing 1 year at Red River H.S.) He also played on a travelling team during the first year of GGFSC's existence in 1988. During his college years at UND, Chad continued playing soccer for the men’s soccer club team. Chad has coached youth soccer for over 10 years in Grand Forks, mostly for his two daughters’ teams from 1st grade through 6th grade. In 2017, he coached the GGFSC U12 Girls team in a fall tournament in Prior Lake, MN.

Chad is looking forward to being the assistant coach for this year’s U13 Girls team, which includes his daughter Eden.

Amber Mooney

Amber Mooney played varsity soccer through high school and continuted to play on recreational teams through college. After her high school playing years, she coached the high school JV team for two years. She was an Assistant Coach for middle school teams while teaching in California and has coached many years of Sunflake Soccer in Grand Forks. She also holds a Grade 9 Refereeing License. This is Amber's first year coaching for GGFSC.

Dov Sapkauskas

Dov Sapkauskas is currently enlisted in the USAF. Prior to joining GGFSC, Dov coached a youth soccer team in the Chicagoland area. This is Dov's first season with the club and he is excited to learn the system, grow as a coach, and teach the athletes as much as he can throughout the season!

Ellea Bachmeier

Ellea Bachmeier is from Fargo, North Dakota. She is a Senior majoring in Kinesiology and Psychology at the University of North Dakota. This is Ellea's first year with the Greater Grand Forks Soccer Club. Ellea has a wide background in sports. She grew up playing hockey and competing in cross country and track. She has coached running and hockey camps since she was in high school. She is excited to bring her knowledge of athletics to the soccer field this season!

Tommy Ellis

Tommy Ellis currently plays high school soccer in East Grand Forks. He has been on the varsity team since his Freshman year. Tommy played soccer for GGFSC for two years and loves coaching and learning. This summer, Tommy will be the assistant coach for the U8/U9 Boys and the U11 Boys.

Mason grew up in Grand Forks and has played soccer since he was eight years old. He played varsity all four years of high school and was a captain his senior year. This is Mason's first year coaching with GGFSC.

 

Luis Ogaz

Luis has played soccer for over 25 years and started at the age of four. He has been playing all over the world: Texas, Mexico, South Korea, Italy, and Germany. In New Mexico, Luis coached youth soccer for three years and an adult team for two years. This is Luis' first year coaching at GGFSC.

Katie Moller

Winter Program 2019: U11-U12 Girls/Boys Coach


Katie grew up playing club in Oregon, was on Crossfire Washington ECNL, as well as Three Rivers League. She was named Player of the Year in high school.  She played 4 years for UND soccer and was named summit league offensive player of the year in the 2018 season.  She also played on the Dakota Fusion WPSL team.

Katie started her coaching career in high school. Prior to the 2019 winter program, she coached for GGFSC's summer competitive program for 3 years. She currently holds in E-license.

Damian Macias

Winter Program 2019: U13-U18 Girls/Boys Coach


Damian Macias was born in Tallahassee, Florida, but considers San Antonio, Texas as his hometown. During his early playing days, Damian played for the Albuquerque Strikers club and was part of the Nebraska ODP Program.

Damian has coached at multiple levels including high school, club, and college. In addition, Macias has 8 years of international coaching experience, including stints at Yokota High School and Okinawa Diplomats Soccer Club in Japan. He coached at Kaiserslautern Military Community Select Soccer Academy and SV Mackenback in Germany. Most recently, he is serving as a volunteer assistant coach with the University of North Dakota. Macias' club background includes coaching and Director of Coaching at Alliance Soccer Club and San Antonio Strikers Soccer Club in Texas, and coaching and Director of Premier Boys at St. Louis Scott-Gallagher Club in Illinois.

Macias currently holds a United States Soccer Federation National B and a National Goalkeeping License as well as a NSCAA Premier Diploma.

Carter Kindel

Carter Kidel is from Bismarck, ND and is currently attending UND in the pre-dental program. Carter started playing soccer when he was five years old. He played defense for two years for Century High School in Bismarck and his competitive career was with Dakota United Soccer Club. Prior to joining GGFSC, Carter coached elementary school kids.

My name is Jake Quinton I am from West Fargo. I started playing soccer at age 6 and played 3 years of varsity soccer at West Fargo High. I also coached 3 summers at West Fargo Soccer club working with ages 4-11. I am excited to meet everyone and am looking forward to a great season of fun and improvement!
