Want to become a referee? Now is the time! Below are the steps to get registered. All players 13 years and older and all adults welcome! US Soccer requires referees to be 13 years old by the day they register.



  • Sunday, August 10th 3:45 PM - 5:45 PM
  • Location: Choice Health & Fitness, 4401 S 11th St, Grand Forks, ND, 58201 
  • Cost $65 (+ $23 for background screening for adults)

  • Minimum age: 13 at the time of registration - Note that GGFSC requires refs for rec games to be 7th grade and up

Sign-up Instructions


  1. Go to https://learning.ussoccer.com/referee/
  2. Click "Sign Up" and fill out the information for the referee 
  3. Click Courses on the top and under Available Referee Courses, find First Time Referees to select "Go to Course List" to find the Grand Forks New Referee Course for your preferred date to select "Course Details".                                                            Direct Link: https://learning.ussoccer.com/referee/courses/available/10000006/details/20007642
  4. Register and pay for the Grand Forks New Referee Course (cost is $65, $88 for adults needing a background check)
  5. In the course classroom, click "Course Timeline" at the top and complete the Online  Referee Course, the Introduction to Safe and Healthy Playing Environments, and the First Time Referee Quiz (A background check and SafeSport training is only required for those 18 years or older)
  6. Attend the in-person referee training on your preferred date with a phone.  No other equipment or items are necessary.
  7. Get ready to referee!

When you are ready to referee for GGFSC (i.e. you have obtained your certification), email the GGFSC Referee Coordinator, Kim Pedersen, at [email protected] and let him know of your availability for the spring rec season. Games tentatively start April 26 and are on Tuesday & Thursday evenings as well as Saturday morning.  Our need for referees is usually greatest for the weeknight games.
